Dustin,
This is exciting! Sascha Hanssen developed a Ruby Deep Zoom library a while ago. I've included it in the OpenZoom project and cleaned up the APIs. Check it out:
http://github.com/openzoom/deepzoom.rb
If your code is more versatile, please share it or let me know if you'd like to join the existing deepzoom.rb development.
Cheers,
Daniel

Paul,
No need to apologize :)
Are you familiar with the concept of a Document Class? Basically, the ActionScript code is not on the timeline anymore but in an external file, e.g. http://github.com/openzoom/sdk/blob/m...
The following is a tutorial on this: http://www.heaveninteractive.com/webl...
Let me know if you need more help.

Daniel Gasienica replied on March 08, 2010 20:16 to the idea "free plans for Get Satisfaction" in Get Satisfaction:
Hello,
I totally love Get Satisfaction and I'm the first to acknowledge that the existing free plans are a very gracious offer on your behalf.
What I'm trying to address is the lack of options for non-profit, open source projects such as OpenZoom which I created about 18 months ago. These projects help many people around the world without generating a dime of revenue, except for a few generous donations, and therefore will never be a target market for Get Satisfaction.
Thanks to a special agreement I had the pleasure to make use of the Get Satisfaction moderator tools over the past year but this has stopped with the announcement of your new plans. For open source software projects renaming of, setting status for and merging topics are a integral feature, e.g. bug triaging, feature requests, etc. but can only obtained through a paid plan. So far, I've helped 208 people and written 487 replies – it would be a shame if I couldn't do this as effectively in the future.
As I'm fairly certain that your infrastructure and therefore business relies on open source software, e.g. OS (Linux), server (Apache, nginx), languages (PHP, Python), framworks (Ruby on Rails), it would be a nice way to give back by offering a special plan for open source projects & developers.
Examples of companies having special plans for open source projects & developers:
GitHub (Project Hosting)
http://github.com/plans
Napkee (Mockup Tool)

FDT (Flash Development Tool)

Pasquale,
First, I'd appreciate it if your communication was a bit more thoughtful. Second, if you look at the source code of openzoom.py you can see that you can indeed convert standalone DZIs, e.g. line 174.

Topher,
Puh, I'm glad you've found the solution. Indeed, it is absolutely crucial that you (and your objects) never leave the scene dimensions, otherwise you'll witness the bugs you've found.
It seems there's a lot I should still blog about but for various reasons I've lately put less energy into OpenZoom.
Let me know if you need further help.
Cheers,
Daniel

Topher,
Aaaaaaaah!! The reason I haven't responded to you so far but to most other posts is because yours definitely needs some code time which I hadn't had yet. In fact, after returning from the U.S. I still need to set up my local OpenZoom work environment. Until this is done I can only offer little advice :'(
Question: How do you add your ImagePyramidRenderer children to the MultiScaleContainer?
No matter what, I'm fairly confident we can solve this problem as I've already got something similar to work before, assuming I haven't introduced a new bug since then ;)

Bredan,
Thanks a lot for reporting this. I believe it took me way longer than you to locate this bug though I have already fixed it a while back:
http://github.com/openzoom/sdk/commit...
Ideally, of course, this would already be included in the latest public release.

Ruven,
This is fantastic! I'd be happy to include your work in the OpenZoom SDK. To protect both of us, I'd need you to sign a Contributor's License Agreement (CLA). Let me know if you're interested and I'll send you the form.
